Grudge Tables for my campaign

In Saturday's post I mentioned wanting to use Bedrock Brendan's idea of a Grudge Table for my Honor+Intrigue game. So I decided to create my own Grudge Tables. From memory I wrote down what I saw as some of the grudges that the PCs have created through their actions. Then I took a spin through my Adventure List and my write ups of past adventures and added additional grudges for the active PCs. The list quickly got long, so I intentionally didn't check to see if the deaths of any of the many named NPCs had created a new grudge. In parentheses I listed which PCs the enemy or grudge was focused on. Then I ordered the list from earliest grudge to most recent grudge and adjusted the ordering for grudges that had been refreshed by more recent events. This gave me a Master Enemy List in order from oldest to newest enemy or grudge.

MASTER ENEMY LIST
  1. Baron Saint-Giron (Guy)
  2. César de Mala Cassanha (Gaston)
  3. Alain Sieur de Trevaux and Anthelme Lejeune (Gaston, Signoret)
  4. Bertrand Seigneur le Renault (Guy)
  5. Fratellanza di Giganti (Gaston, Guy, Signoret, Norbert)
  6. Albert Barón van Aaldenberg (Norbert)
  7. Don Alvaro “The Iron Hand” (Gaston)
  8. Jean "La Buse" Orande (Norbert, Guy, Signoret, Gaston)
  9. Dwarf L’Omino (Signoret)
  10. Chastel family (Signoret)
  11. Durgo’s Gang (Signoret)
  12. Governor of Soissons (Norbert, Jacques)
  13. Henry Rich, Lord Kensington (the Four)
  14. Friar Fitellus di Canem (Signoret)
  15. Branville (Guy, de Chambre, Signoret)
  16. The Left Hand of God (Guy, Gaston)
  17. Hedge Witch (de Chambre)

To put this in context, I've been running Honor+Intrigue regularly, once a week since July 20, 2012 for a total of 189 Sessions. So 17 grudges really isn't all that many, but it does seem a bit unwieldy for the table format. I may need to rethink switching from a 2d10 table to a 2d6 table.

Since the PCs are currently split into Northern (Paris) and Southern (Marseille) groups I shortened the list by eliminating the three grudges that only affect Southern group PCs to get a Northern PCs Enemy List.

NORTHERN PCs ENEMY LIST
  1. Baron Saint-Giron (Guy)
  2. César de Mala Cassanha (Gaston)
  3. Alain Sieur de Trevaux and Anthelme Lejeune (Gaston, Signoret)
  4. Bertrand Seigneur le Renault (Guy)
  5. Fratellanza di Giganti (Gaston, Guy, Signoret, Norbert)
  6. Don Alvaro “The Iron Hand” (Gaston)
  7. Jean "La Buse" Orande (Norbert, Guy, Signoret, Gaston)
  8. Dwarf L’Omino (Signoret)
  9. Chastel family (Signoret)
  10. Durgo’s Gang (Signoret)
  11. Friar Fitellus di Canem (Signoret)
  12. Branville (Guy, de Chambre, Signoret)
  13. The Left Hand of God (Guy, Gaston)
  14. Hedge Witch (de Chambre)
Then I placed the grudges into tables. Since a 2d6 table has a maximum of 5 enemies, I created 3 tables as follows.

TABLE 1: GRUDGE ENCOUNTER
  (2d6)   Result
     2       Durgo’s Gang (Signoret)
3       Friar Fitellus di Canem (Signoret)
4       Branville (Guy, de Chambre, Signoret)
5       The Left Hand of God (Guy, Gaston)
     6       Hedge Witch (de Chambre)
     7       No encounter
     8       No encounter
     9       No encounter
10      Roll on Grudge Table 2
11      Roll on Grudge Table 2
12      Roll on Unknown or Mistaken Grudge Table
TABLE 2: GRUDGE ENCOUNTER
  (2d6)   Result
2       Fratellanza di Giganti (Gaston, Guy, Signoret, Norbert)
3       Don Alvaro “The Iron Hand” (Gaston)
4       Jean "La Buse" Orande (Norbert, Guy, Signoret, Gaston)
     5       Dwarf L’Omino (Signoret)
     6       Chastel family (Signoret)
     7       No encounter
     8       No encounter
     9       No encounter
10      Roll on Grudge Table 3
11      Roll on Grudge Table 3
12      Roll on Unknown or Mistaken Grudge Table
TABLE 3: GRUDGE ENCOUNTER
  (2d6)   Result
     2       Grudge Slot 5
     3       Baron Saint-Giron (Guy)
4       César de Mala Cassanha (Gaston)
5       Alain Sieur de Trevaux and Anthelme Lejeune (Gaston, Signoret)
6       Bertrand Seigneur le Renault (Guy)
     7       No encounter
     8       No encounter
     9       No encounter
10      Roll on Grudge Table 4
11      Roll on Grudge Table 4
12      Roll on Unknown or Mistaken Grudge Table

Note that currently there is no Grudge Table 4. Though judging from past play, it shouldn't take the PCs long to create some new grudges.

Once the PCs finish the current, complex adventure I'll start using the Grudge Tables. I think I may  share this with the players. They might enjoy knowing how long a list of grudges they have accumulated.
